Hi folks!

I've got some lovely packets of unopened stockings.

These look 70's - could anyone give me more info?

I'd guess early to mid 'eighties for the first pair...she looks like she's got biggish shoulder pads in that coat of hers, and the stockings contain Lycra which I don't think was used much in hosiery during the '70s.

The second one looks like late '60s. Fancy a young lovely like her wearing support stockings? I guess you never know...

They say that Lycra was first used in pp hosiery in 1982* that would be about right with the first pair as it has a lycra flash on the packet advertising it, also the very first pairs only had about 1 or 2 % maybe 3 of lycra in they increased the percentage as time went on.

The second pair is slightly odd as it has a older style of photo yet 12% lycra. The key to the age could be the relationship between Du point and ICI as that sounds like the time they were separate companies I have a big around and see if I can find something further out.

*The date 1982 is what I have read and only on one web site so personally I not 100% certain if that rights because in 1980 /81 I was selling Pretty Polly hosiery and I am certain there was lycra in it then. At that time I was not interested in hosiery.
