Have any display ideas? Do share!!

I've spent this weekend trying to get (re!) organised. Just when I think I have it under control I realise I am nowhere near as well set up as I think - my friend came over to buy a birthday present for her friend and wanted to look at accessories and it was tricky because a lot of that sort of thing is packed away.

Dresses aren't so much of a problem as they are all on racks and easily browseable. It's the gloves, shoes, bags, jewellery and associated goodies that I need some ideas for! I have a big room housing the majority of the stuff, which is about 22' x 10', so a lot of wall space.

I would like to have it so that everything is on almost 'shop like' display at home so that if people do call to look it's appealing (rather than having to watch me heave things down from very high shelves with a kick stool!). And so I can play shop, without spending a fortune on shop fitting out my front bedroom :D And then when I do this show in April I will be organised (ahem!) and be able to take the displays along in part.

What innovative ways do you have to display your collections? I'd love to know!!

:)

I want to find china hutches to use for displaying. My grandmother has one at her house that is great and the bottom half has alot of drawers. When I can get the stuff out of it and around it, that's what I am going to use. And then go on the hunt for more.

I don't have a need to display anything right now for my business, but I used to have an antique dining room set that had a buffet/sideboard that would have been great for displaying & storing accessories. It was about 6-ft. long, with two cupboards at either end and 2 long drawers in the middle. The top drawer had the divided compartments for silverware, but I could easily see jewelry, gloves, etc. in there. And purses, shoes, jewelry trees, etc. on top. And larger items in the cupboards that you might rotate in & out of display. If you had two-tiered racks or small shelves that could sit on something like this, it would And a matching china hutch would be perfect, too. A few pieces of varying sizes might work, with the long dimensions of your room! It could be made to look very homelike & comfy, with some nice vintage linens & lace doilies strewn about ....

well i spent last night up to my eyes in board and foam and old silk velvet making a jewellery display. i thought about getting out some smaller old gilt picture frames (unsurprisingly i have quite a few, being a hoarder of anything and everything!) and removing the glass and covering the backing board with foamand velvet.. i have a lot of foam and velvet!

funnily enough i have an old sideboard in the room! currently hidden behind racks and under storage boxes i must think about utilising it more creatively, thanks anne! and the china hutch idea is a great one jamie...i might head down to thehouse clearance place as they often have some nice ones. i think sara (sarasattic) said she uses them for her bags? maybe that could be my shoe solution!

thanks all - am still thinking too :)

What wonderful ideas. Never thought about displaying my jewelry. It is just sitting in old jewelry boxes..lol. I have an antique button spool four poster bed in my Ebay room and everything just sits atop of it. I promised myself that I would get this room cleaned up and you have inspired me!

If you think of any more ideas, I would love to hear about them.

ahh - i was confused about the china hutch thing.. i was thinkning of those bow fronted glass cabinets.
that's a lot more capacious jamie!! :)

only idea update at the moment is cutting my own glove display things out of thin card... lol! i'll have to take some pics when i'm all reorganised!

These are great because they are cheap (I pay about $6 a piece for them) and they come in all lengths and colors. They are just a board with pegs on it. I get them at a local antique mall, but see them at all the craft places. Plus, they are LOVELY dust catchers!

I *WISH* i could display like that. My husband would definitely put the kabash (sp?) on that one - in fear that folks would think we were bonkers. But maybe in the big closet I could... (and Alana, that doesn't mean you are the idea are bonkers. Its actually quite cool...its the DH that can be bonkers) lol

ha! My husband was none to thrilled to see that go up in the bedroom. But now, he likes it. He even takes people up there to ohh and ahh.

Of course, most of my girlfriends tell me that thier husbands would never tolerate half my bullpuckey!

latest thing (i am becoming pre-occupied with getting organised, can you tell!)
bought a pair of plain unvarnished mug trees at a bric a brac sale today for the princely sum of 20 pence - perfect for more necklaces and bracelets.
;)

Mug trees...haven't thought of those in awhile. Everyone had one for awhile. Then they ended up being something that people were given mutliples of...and there are only so mug trees that fit on a counter.

I have a folding wooden wine rack. I remember in the 70s or earlier they had them and they are dark brown, and up at my grandparents, they had a coat rack with hooks that could fold that looked like it matched. Anyways, i got one at an auction that was tossed in with something else i wanted. So I brought it home and used it for a shoe rack in my closet. Not boots, but dance shoes, flats, and fancy shoes fit nicely in it.

Until people started giving us wine all the sudden and i it was taking up room in the fridge...now its a wine rack!

Harriet, here are some pictures of what my storage building/house looked like when I first moved in. Now you can hardly get in the front door. lol . ..I plan on major organizing as soon as tax season is over.

I used everything from shelving to old grocery store chip racks to round modular storage strapped together and hung on the wall. Everytime I see a tall pedestal cake plate stand or something similar, I scoop it up and use as a hat display. Look at the clotheline clips in the first pic hanging above the door. Great to hang purses.
