I was just given the most incredible gift and I just have to share this!
My direct adult family is all passed on - aunts, uncles, grandparents and parents. (Ouch - that is a tough mouthful) At a family picnic of cousins, I was given an incredible gift.
It was 2 VHS tapes that have been made from older 8mm movies. (Soon to be remade again to DVD). In watching there were lots of nostalgic scenes I sort of recognized.
Then - WHAMO - up came a house party scene that was back in the 1940s of my parents! I'm not sure if they were married yet or if this was a dating party. I'm thinking it was in their early years of married. They were dancing, laughing and just all around fooling around. Dad even threw some ice down the back of mom's blouse. And I saw him so sweetly kiss her! My father's brothers (and my aunts) were in the background too. It just totally blew me away with love.
Then.......it even got better. Later in the film was a scene of a farm picnic. This turned out to be my great aunt & uncle's farm whom we all had tremendous fond attachments too. THere again were scenes of mom and dad just fooling around and having a grand time. And then........ there came a scene of my two grandmothers sitting at chairs and watching all the shannegans and talking. It was my mom's mother and my dad's mother! This time frame, again, was in the 1940s. I knew my maternal grandmother until I was 13, but I never got to meet my paternal grandmother. Now I feel like I have, sort of.
So....... here I am just awash with feelings! Thanks for letting me share ~
