Help dating a black coat with ribbon

This coat has no tags but is in really great condition, it has no shoulder pads. Seems like wool at first but at closer inspection looks like very very short hairs, the inside not the lining has a cotton gauze fabric

Its had this great puffed half sleeves and the ribbon design, no closures

I got this in a group of clothing items from the late 40s to 60s

My guess early 50s

Wow what a beauty! I might date it to the very late 40s to early 1950s. The fabric may be wool melton, but a close up would help to ID that better.

Edited to say I do not mean Melton, and now I cannot recall the name of this fabric but it was popular for coats in the day.

I see early 50s and a beauty.
It may have mohair in the wool.
I have one very similar with velvet trim and it has mohair.
It is very similar to Lilli Ann coats of the era.

I once had a Lilli Ann coat of this same wool but a different style. It may indeed be a melton wool, but with a slightly longer nap that gave it a slight "furry" look to it. It is a very smooth fabric almost like a panne'. Perhaps it was a specialty wool melton fabric made for only a few years for certain better label designer coats.

I am in love with that coat.

I have found only one match to my exact coat. A seller on etsy had one, no label in hers either, but she had a different lining. I wish i knew who made this wonderful coat! I tried to get a close up of the fabric, its almost spiky like a very short buzz cut lol but lays down a bit

Agree with Suzanne: I see early '50s mohair mix.

My first thought was Lilli Ann but I can't find anything similar online. I do have a LA early '50s swing coat in similar mohair mix with inserted stripes, but in my case they are black velvet.

So i have found one very similar through pintrest and etsy. It was sold as a 50s opera coat some years ago, but no labels in hers either. I wonder if we will ever figure it out .
