Help Dating a Black Crepe Dress

When I got this dress I was sure of how old it was until I steamed it and put it on my dress form that is.

Is this solidly 60's or could this possibly be a shortened 50's dress?

Black Crepe that I am pretty sure is silk, fully lined, metal Atlas Zipper in the back, both sleeves close with snaps, and check out the neckline - it is I'm pretty sure perma pleat nylon. When you steam it stays in place - including the sleeves. It is 38 inces in length with a 3 inch seam. The seams are pinked and done in that manner where they cut it wide and then narrow/ wide and then narrow.

I am seeing 60s with the ruffles and bows. I like it!

Cute dress! I'd say early sixties - any chance the frill has been inserted into the bodice and originally it was just plunging crepe?

I agree with 60s, too. Had a polka dot dress last year that had that treatment on the collar and sleeves.

Wonder what it would look like without the insert? Wowza:o

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to make sure I was right on about 60's and it wasn't just the sleeve ends and neckline that were making me feel that way.


The insert could easily be taken out although it does appear that it came with the dress as the bow on the dress and the bow on the insert match and I don't think that they were added later. I thought about taking the insert out but the V goes well past the bra line so I decided against that.
