Any thoughts on the age of this Bruno Magli bag? Looks to be leather with lucite frame...I know lucite was used a lot in the 50's, was it not?

That particular style of chain (3D joined S shape links) and gold/brown colour scheme would suggest late 1970s or perhaps 80s to me. I would expect a metal zip in an earlier bag, and a solid handle for an earlier convertible bag.

Thanks for your answers!

Joules, I had naturally assumed that this bag was a Bruno Magli as an Internet search on 'Magli' vintage bag resulted in finding this label:
$_1.jpg

This label does include the 'Bruno' and logo but is the same font, look and wording (Bologna - Made in Italy) as my bag.

I also found a link to information on Bruno Magli where a label is shown not including the 'Bruno' part of the label, see here:

http://eng.shoe-icons.com/resources/brands.htm?id=289

Further to this, a search of registered trademarks only yields links back to Bruno Magli.

However, my label doesn't have the logo at all, and I would of course like more information on this alternative 'Magli' label...can you tell me more about it?

Thanks so much!

The various Trademark databases show both marks belong to the Bruno Magli company, this is the trademark for just Magli:
http://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/4/EU001241371
Please note the date refers to when the trademark was granted over all the EU, it's highly likely they had Italian trademarks in place before this.

I have a pair of 1970s evening sandals made by Bologna et Figli in Italy for Magli in New Bond Street London here.
At the time of listing I assumed, from the age of the shoes that originally they did not include Bruno and this was simply added later, but from the history given on the Shoe icons page, which looks as though it must in part have come from the company's own history, I rather suspect those that those items that were made or sold directly in one of their original 5 shops globally were marked Magli, and the Bruno Magli items are the licenced products from the 80's onwards (of which I see frequently). This is speculation on my part however.

The Magli mark shown on the link above didn't come from either of those shoes, it appears in these 1960's shoes, as the ShoeIcons site lists each label seperately:

missaleecat, you are correct, my mistake.

As Magli is a sub-brand of Bruno Magli, I would not refer to this as a "Bruno Magli" bag.
You could of course, include information about the company.

The firm has been in a downward spiral for a number of years now, and is emerging once again, from insolvency, just last month. The new owner will attempt to rebrand.

I shopped for Bruno Magli shoes at Bullock's Wilshire and Neiman Marcus, and wore Bruno Magli shoes for my wedding in the 70s, when the quality was always top notch.

I've seen the Magli bags around, but always pass on them.
