Help dating a dress (30s or 40s)?

Hey guys,

I came across this dress with a light jacket. I think it is from 1930s or 1940s but I am not sure.
No shoulder pads
Before washing couple times, it smelled like pasta.

One more question? I noticed some 1930s and 1940s clothing smells like pasta or spaghetti. Why is that?

No idea about the odd scent, just wanted to say how lovely this set is!

I have noticed that old rayons have a distinctive scent. I have thought it may be the dyes used. I never equated it to pasta, but each person is different in how things smell to them. If the smell persists after dry cleaning, hang pieces on padded hangers in a covered outdoor place like a porch.

Yes, it is always old rayon. The smell is kind similar to pasta. Maybe it is the dyes they used.
