So i really try not to bother you ladies so much, but this dress is so confusing to me. Hopefully some of you can help pin point a decade for me.

Ok so definitely homesewn hand and on a basic machine, i can tell from the stitching on the zipper and on fabric.

Outer layer seems to be like a sheer crepe, the inner layer stikes me as a Polyester? But im not sure, i included pictures of fabric.

There is no darting anywhere, very basic pattern. Aline skirt Hand sewn sequins and rhinestones and side metal zipper.

There is elastic in the waist but it's shot and old. I have no idea what this dress would of been made for. I found it at the thrift. But i really loved the sequin pattern so i took it home.

Any input would be so helpful

hmmm… The elastic waist makes me think this is 70s-80s. The sequins and no darts make me think this is 80s, mid to late. The questionable part to me is the zipper. I’m wondering if this was an older dress that maybe was too big and the elastic was added later(?) for fit or trending fashion reasons.

Is the elastic encased, or just sewn to the waistline?

Yes its why its so confusing, that side metal zipper, the zipper is Smaller thinner size too. The elastic is encased. And completely shot. Usually 80s dresses the elastic would still be pretty good condition...But it all depends on alot of factors. But its rare i find 80s garments with completely ruined elastic. Now i have replaced the elastic from a 1940s Novelty lingere set which was encased. So i have seen elastic in waists of 40s garments. But that doesnt mean this is 40s. I was thinking maybe home made 60s to 70s but why bother with a zipper lol ahhhh. That shiny thin polyester fabric is what makes me think 60s 70s

Update, took the elastic out. Now where they put it in the color thread they used to create a casing is a different shade of pink than the threads used for rhe rest of the dress, dress was also taken in on the side that doesnt have a zipper with darker thread
