Help Dating a Petit Point Bag Please!

I just bought this little purse and am wondering if you can help me date it? I can’t find any other bags with these scenes on them with Google lens or searching online. It appears to be a gray haired lady wearing a purple gown playing a piano or organ in the garden or woods with various animals, flowers, and trees. There are “jewels” decorating the front side of the frame, and a “cabochon” that is rust color on the clasp. There is cute blue/green ribbon decorating the inside around the frame. The inside fabric is quite soiled and has a bunch of lipstick stains, but appears to have been gray and synthetic.

It measures approx. 7” tall to the frame, and 8” at the widest part of the bag. The chain strap has about a 7.5” drop to the frame.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer!

Very interesting bag and I wish I were actually holding it... my first thought is that the frame is older, perhaps 40s and the needlework piece and construction done later like 60s. The blue/green ribbon was added later...

it's a mysterious one!

Thank you so much, I appreciate your time and expertise!

The frame looks art deco to me...so perhaps early 30s. Love the needlepoint it is such a unique pattern, it might have been designed from one of those needlepoint pattern books. Really a lovely example.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your time and expertise! I thought it was 30s, but when I couldn’t find another like it, I started to think I was wrong.

Yes, the frame may have been repurposed. I've done this a few times as a good frame can be put to use for a new bag.

I've had similar frames from the '20s and '30s, with similar lining trim and clasp.

I know this is no help with dating your bag but I think the subject matter may be based on the medieval tapestries "The Lady and the Unicorn" which are in a museum in France. One of the five tapestries depicts a lady playing an early form of organ. Sorry, I don't know how to do a link but if you Google it there is a lot of info and pictures.
I love the colours used in your bag, it's very pretty.

I think you’re right, it is similar to the Hearing tapestry! I think the unicorn is the gray animal on the right, and the lion is the brown one on the left. How interesting! Thank you for telling me!
