i was in getting this fixed yesterday as i caught it in a door and it came to me i have no idea of its date!
it was sold as gold with diamonds - it looks silver so maybe white gold or maybe they saw me fall in love with it and thought they could make some money!
i adore it anyway so it doesnt really matter its value but was just interested in when it might have been made.
no hallmarks or anything and it does need a good clean!
any help as ever would be amazing!

I am no jewellery specialist - so I'm just saying what ran through my mind when I saw this.

Isn't it so that if they were real diamonds, they would be set in gold - in this case meaning white gold? I always thought they didn't set real diamonds in silver. Don't know how white gold looks in comparison to silver, but looking at this ring, I would have though of silver. The ring has, from the way I see it, a little nick, it's not quite round. Is that from the repair, or from getting it caught in the door, or was that so when you got it? Silver can be quite soft, and I have had more than silver ring that accidentally got mis-shaped (sometimes the body heat is quite enough, if it's a slender ring, and you catch it somewhere). That would point to silver in my opinion.

thank you for your reply!
the little nick is where i caught it and was repaired. very clumsy!
when i took it to the jewelers he did ask straight away what carat of ring it was so he could match his solder.
and the back of the ring does yellow sometimes until its buffed again.
so im maybe thinking it is white gold?
any idea of when it may have been made? my mum bought it for me for my 18th and i have absolutely no idea of its history beforehand!
thank you! x

The only way to be sure of the metal is to have it tested. The style looks late '60's to me - was it purchased "new" or at an antique shop?

I am not a jeweller but it is my understanding that white gold is usually plated with rhodium to get it super shiny. I have many rings that are set in white gold - so that is not unusual. Most gold rings are marked but if it was sized (or repaired) it's possible that the mark was removed.

thanks Linn!
it was purchased at an antique type shop.
i'll probably go and get it tested soon quite curious now!
