Hi there

I found this lovely dress at a vintage market and since then I have been driving myself crazy trying to date it! I'm finding limited and vague information on vintage knitted dresses on the Internet. Would anyone have any information?

*No labels at all
*Textured knit with little bumps
*Midi/above ankle length
*Wide holed sheer knit style on bodice and sleeves
*Self fabric belt
*Crochet trim detail on hems and neckline
*Lovely baby blue colour

Thanks!

That particular knitted pattern, type of yarn and colour are all saying 70s to 80s to me. It harks back to the 1930's style knitted dresses, but yours either has a drop waist or the tie is supposed to be done up tighter up around the waist giving a more blouson effect to the bodice.
Hand and machine knitting at home was very popular around then so it's entirely possible someone knitted it themselves.

It's surely tie up

It surely seems to be a tie up from waist dress. They were very famous back in 30s. Also, I can say that someone perfectly knitted it, by bare hands..!!!

I have sold an almost exact copy of that dress in the past, except mine had long sleeves! I bought it from a lady who originally bought it from new in the 1970s :)

Ah, thanks so much all for your comments!
I was also thinking the dress was late 70's, although its kinda hard to imagine that this would be a homemade item though as the construction is pretty much perfect!
I've attached close up pictures of the crochet neckline and hems for anyone that may be interested, also a pic of the seam up the back of the skirt and the elastic waist from the inside.
