Basque berets are still available today. I think I saw an advertisement in the back of Harper's(?) or Smithsonian magazine. They are such a traditional style it would be hard to date them, although I know there are likely subtle differences in fabric quality and probably in labels.
I love berets and always have one or two, but seem to love my favorites.
