Help dating Bergdorf Goodman skirt

Hi all,

I purchased this Bergdorf Goodman skirt for myself and didn't think it is really vintage. When I looked at it closely, I realized it has a union tag and a label that the resource places in the 60s. I just didn't think this cut was popular then but I guess I could be totally wrong. The other weird thing is that the fabric is sleek and has a bit of a sheen so nothing like suede say, but I put it the other day and when I took my hands out of the pockets, they were covered in something like black soot, similar to what you get when you have suede deterioration. What do you think that is and could it be from the 60s?

PS. Just saw that the union label was used from 1974-1995 so the Bergdorf Goodman tag must have been used after the 60s.

I recently bought a bunch of clothing that came from an attic and gave me black sooty hands - it's just years of dust and dirt - I took them straight to the dry cleaners / hand washed them and they are fine now.
Alternatively if it has any sort of plastic content they can break down - I have had that in 60's gear before.

Thank you, Jules. I had seen that and added it to my original post. That of course means that the Bergdorf Goodman label in the label resource identified as 60s was used much later than that. I was hoping someone would have some thoughts on the actual cut of the skirt. What period would that be or is it too classic to tell?

I agree with Joules on an '80s date for the skirt, late '80s. I also agree that there are slight differences in the label but it is very similar. Perhaps submit this one to the LR? Many labels were in use for a long time or only changed minimally. Your label looks very '80s to me.

Whilst a version of this skirt is classic and used in many decades, there are generally subtleties between them: the length, the location of the kick pleat or split, the width of the waist band, darts or pleats etc. I had many of these skirts in the late '80s to early '90s, they were generally worn with matching jackets.
