help dating coat and identifying fur type

Hiya!

I'm hoping someone can help with dating this coat and identifying the fur type of the collar. My feeling is that the coat dates from the late 30s/early 40s, given the puff sleeves, gathers at the waist, and style of the belt. Regarding fur type, i'm just not sure. Maybe fox? It's not an oily fur, and there are soft underhairs as well as longer outerhairs. There are no labels.

Thanks for your reply! I attached several photos of the lining to the above reply, and one of these shows the hem, which looks original to me. But you're right, the coat is rather short. The center back measurement (not including the collar) is just 41 inches.
