Help Dating Cotton Dress - Side Metal Zip

Hi all!
Am looking for some help dating this vintage cotton dress.
It has a side metal 'falcon' zipper and the label says "Young Size"
It has clear plastic buttons and came with a gray belt, however, i'm inclined to think that the belt is not original. If it is original, it makes me believe this is from the 1960s.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated ~ Brooke

Do you have images without the belt? Can you show the shape of any bodice seams?
Hi - I don't have pictures yet, however, both shoulders have a tuck pleat at sides and the bodice itself has short double seams at both center sides. The skirt is also made up of 12 panels if that helps.

The waist is also a tad higher measuring 6 1/4" down from underarm seam. So maybe 60s makes more sense now?

Yes it sounds like a loose fitting shift dress from the 60's, might possibly have had a matching fabric soft tie belt, or not meant to be worn with a belt at all.

Thank you Melanie! There is actually 1 skinny belt loop left on her, so she would have had an original belt. I am thinking more inline with you on a matching fabric tie belt and not the one pictured but the color does compliment the grayish ecru of the print.

You are welcome. Certainly this is most likely how it would be worn today. Can you just check the hem - either it's larger than the mannequin and it's just a bit lopsided (the photo shows it hanging lower to the right) or I wonder if it's been rehemmed, either unevenly or for someone who didn't stand straight.

Yes the hem is a little uneven - the left side dips down a 1/2" more than the right. I'm assuming it was originally longer as there's a 2" under hem.
