Help dating crepe dress

I have had this dress for ages and have decided to keep it for myself ;) However I have grown blind to its age.
It's a very heavy crepe with faded gold sequins. There is a 27cm split up the front as shown in the photo, apologies for dim lighting. The material covered buttons are at the centre back. There are no labels.

Thank you Mary Jane. I had it labelled 40's Would you believe no one has bought it after 4 years, and now I've lost some weight I have managed to get in it .

I see it as early 1950's, mostly because of the neckline. Very nice and well worth keeping.

It's that period after the war before the New Look takes over - c. 1947-48ish - low necklines are popular then.
