Help Dating Dress - Part 4

Found one more. I am suspecting this is about 1880 but would like confirmation. I'm thinking this may have been taken around the occasion of the young lady's wedding which would have been sometime around 1878 - 1880.
Notice the beard of the gent sitting - he shaved down to his chin line and then let his beard grow under his chin like a goat - thus he earned the nick-name "Goaty" not to be confused with today's popular goatee bead style.

Lets see what others think. It is difficult since her clothing is mostly hidden from us, (the skirt holds the most clues) but in general it looks anywhere from 1870s to mid 1880s. The older woman looks frightened and does not trust the camera. She is wearing older style hat and clothing.
 
That is mom and she always look like that. I was thinking her outfit was new, but that's why I came here for the help.

I don't think Moms outfit is new, so late 1870s, as Barbara says she does look frightened but perhaps because it was the 2nd/3rd attempt and her look is one of expecting the flash powder to go again and a little annoyance setting in. ( Edit, did the lady have any teeth? ).

The medium used is the wet process.

The gentleman's clothes I think are newer, early 1880s and the chin beard he sports, its a little unusual in trim so am wondering if its a club cut or Quaker thing going on.

I think early to mid 1880 is good.

Have to say of all your photos/costumes I's give almost anything to have the straw boater.

That would be the mom of the girl in the photo not my mom :) :) In fact the gent in the photo is a Jones so this is my dads side of the family.

My grandfather (who was is the grand son of the gent in the photo) said that the girl was Alice - of course far be it from a man in his 90's to get some old memory wrong :) . She was born in 1878 so that would make her 3 - 5 years old at the time of this photo. Older sis Sarah was born in Feb 1863 and died in 1883 just 9 days after her 3 month old son and less than a month after turning 20 - yes, that is sad. Don't know when she was married but she is single in the March/April census in 1871 (Canada does the census 1 year after the US does) so that would put the marriage in the 1861/62 time frame. That time frame seems to fit the era of the clothing, right? If that is right then it's a good chance this photo was taken around Sarah's wedding.

I greatly appreciate all the input on this and the other 3 photo's as I am in contact with the great grand daughter of one of the other ladies and she does not have a photo of her. Hopefully we can figure out who is who in the family zoo and she will then have a nice photo of her ancestor.
