When I first got this dress I thought it was 80s does 50s but now I'm thinking it might be 50s. It has a metal zip and a union label. The length is short for 50s but it looks like the hem might have been taken up at one point because there's about 3" seam allowance there. Burn test confirmed fabric is cellulose/natural. Any thoughts?

Hi, I think it is a late 50's or early 60's wiggle dress, can you find out how long the natural skirt length would have been before it was turned up?
One of the differences I would use to determine 50's from 80's is the armholes tend to be cut quite small and high in the 50's. I would also have thought a skirt like that might have a larger split a the back if it were 80's.
From the ILGWU entry in our label resource it would appear your Canadian ILGWU label predates the example shown which was used between 1968-1984.

Have sent to Nicole and will send to Bonnie, as well. Any other takers?

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and fix the chronologically backward Canadian labels. As I said to Nicole in my email, I'm just too OCD to live with something like that. LOL. Gimme a minute to fix it, Bonnie, then I'll send.

So the cheat sheet is now included on the Label Resource under "ILGWU." I took screen shots of each of the 3 pages of the document and Tiff loaded them this evening. Alice, I'm happy to send you a copy, regardless.

I used to carry it around with me, back when. Now it's pretty much memorized.
