Help dating gold dress.

I need help with a year on this dress.

It is much shinier and brighter in person. Halter style top, blue back zipper, 11.5" slit in front. Material is thin with metallic gold thread throughout - I think it may be gold lame but if someone could confirm it, that would be great! Blue and purple lining. 2.25" hem. No labels anywhere.

Thank you!

I was thinking 60's, but I usually don't comment until my suspicions have been confirmed. I would totally wear this dress! Super cute!

This sort of fabric was popular in the late '80s and I'm getting a more modern feel from this dress than '60s - the '60s lame' brocades were heavier so I'm going late '80s. Pity there aren't any labels to help.

Hi,

I am a bit out of my element, but I will chime in anyway.

The style looks early to mid 60's to me...but the fabric looks later...and the dress has a bit of a home-made quality to it.

The fabric is a brocade with a type of Lurex thread, and I suspect Nicole is right ...in that the brocade seems lighter and looser in weave than the 60's metallic brocades. In your photo, the gold lurex threads are more "overshot" atop the weave...earlier lurex and lame brocades had the threads more integrated into the weave. I hope that makes sense?

Possibly a dress made up from a pattern, using later than 1960's fabric.

good thought, Barbara @ an older pattern with younger fabric possibly...that neckline? the narrow band with halter? my mom made me a dress like that, would have been 1965, spring.

and agree, that has to be home-sewn, the contrast zipper, the lining and hem finish are all home sewn look.

i love that neckline and silhouette ~ i'd wear it with a big wide belt... and gold spike heels...

Thank you everyone! Everything about this dress feels 60s to me, even though I'm by no means any expert. It just doesn't seem to be from the 80s, even the fabric - I wish you all could see it in person. The inside seams have that jagged edge cut from the scissors with the triangle edge (I have no idea what they are called - just that my mom use to have a pair) and the zipper looks older than 80s also. And even though the fabric is on the thinner side, it is kind of like a curtain material. I wish there was some way I could know for sure!

I appreciate all your input!
