Help! dating long sleeved keyhole neck knitted top with collar: earlier than 70's?

well I don't know where to go with this: it came out of a house that had items from Victorian to early 80's. It kind of looks 70's to me in the colours, slender style and stripe design. However it has no labels or evidence of there having been any but looks machine knitted to me. I'm just wondering if this could be a much earlier top? It has two very cute hidden pockets in the front, not good for much but a tissue or coin. The button loop is chain plaited like a cord and the button is made from the old style cover button with a fabric shank and covered with maching knit that also has this pattern in it. I've seen this knit before in vests and underwear but I don't know what it's called - do you? The collar is also a standard shape, not pointy at all. The material is ever so strange, looking closely it has the appearance of sisal in minature, it's very shiny, cold and I wouldn't call it soft. Thoughts?

Thank you Mary Jane! (I wanted it to be 30's but didn't want to say after I've been so wrong lately! I actually deleted the phrase 'like a 30's sportswear top?' from the original message!)

Now I've just got to find a *tiny* crochet hook and fix all the runs in it!

Thank you Nicole, I'm going to have to go back to this house, the poor lady has the entire contents of a relatives house clearance and 10x as much clothing and accessories as I took away (which was half a car load...). I know for a fact there are lots and lots of early pieces in there I just don't know about, I had to go on instinct: this was in a bag of 50's-70's tops and was just so different I had to have it.
