Help Dating Monsoon Mandarin Jacket Please

Can anyone help with this Monsoon label please. It is on a beautiful blue quilted mandarin jacket. I cannot tell if the top of the label says Sherhar or Sherkar prints. I dont even know if this is the Monsoon that we know or a completely different brand! Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you xx

Lovely set! It definitely looks like a version of the early Monsoon label to me.

They did collaborate with other designers in the early days - I think maybe it says Shekhar Prints. I’ve not seen that one before though.

There is an Indian designer I found when I googled called Nidhika Shekhar, whether or not they were around in the late 70s I don’t know! Could just be a surname-coincidence of course :)

Some years ago Monsoon were buying back earlier pieces for their archives - I notice they’ve now released a newly designed ‘archive collection’ this year as it’s 50 years since they launched.

Maybe they’ll drip feed more info from their own records, or include it on their website as a result - that would be nice!
 
I agree it says Shekhar. It seems to be quite a common name, though. I imagine they were the producer of the block printed fabric, rather than a clothing designer.

I keep thinking we need a Monsoon entry in the label resource. Tagging @Ranch Queen Vintage in case you can make that happen (sorry to give you a job!). I think this piece is 1970s. If the OP @Katherine Graham is willing to contribute it, this would be a great start.
