Help dating old necklace?

I've never posted here!

The necklace has patina and yellowing of the stones... I tried identifying the time period by the toggle clasp but was pretty unsuccessful. It may be a modern reproduction but the entire construction (especially the barely visible wiring) looks quite antiquated to me.

Welcome Mandy!

I think you have actually have a necklace composed of several marriages of different pieces;
from the bottom there is a 50's/60's diamante brooch or necklace piece,
wired to an oval 60's/70's necklace pendant (which is usually vertical, but has been attached horizontally here)
wired to what looks to be a decorative plate (the two large holes were for screws orginally)
the large chain, appears to be a 60's/70's belt (at a least, that is the only occasion I have seen the combination of both the oversize and standard links, plus that toggle fastening) If you can confirm the size/scale of this that would help.
The thin pearl beaded necklace attached simply to the fastening I think is the most recent, dating from the 80's-modern. It may be real or plastic.

Agree that this is a compilation piece; I had a couple of friends in the 1980s that made this sort of "wearable art" as they called it at that time. we have also seen a lot of these sort of jewelry designs at fairs and flea markets since then.

Thank you! I've never seen another compilation necklace before. I don't think the chain is a belt; it seems too thin for that...but I have seen the differently-sized alternating chain links in belts of that era as well, so maybe so!

there were loads of multiple chain necklaces in the 60s, including those with a variety of chain sizes within a chain itself; it's really impossible to know for sure if from a belt or necklace. The important point being that it is a compilation of individual pieces. :)
