I've been going through some of my (ahem) learning curve purchases....here is an example of what I figured was an 80s girdle...it says "Made in Dominican Republic" ......the tags and material (spandex/nylon) seemed that old, but then when looking on line I saw that although this #2532 has been discontinued, I can't see when and I do see 'modern' #2532's albeit different fabric etc....I find some of the 80s/90s lingerie, particularly bras, girdles etc to sell pretty well....the synthetics aren't so synthetic-y feeling and the padding if any is way more moderate....With something that is "Made in USA" and I have other reasons to believe it's 90s or prior, I feel pretty confident in using that as a dating point....I come across a fair number of items from US companies made in Latin America in the 70s or 80s....is there some rule of thumb for this or is it all an individual problem solving venture?
Thanks alot,
Lauren

Hi Lauren,
I would be going relatively modern on the age of this body suit, the fabric and construction look pretty recent to me. The older types of these usually have more solid construction , for greater figure control.
To learn more about dating Lingerie- I would swat up at the Library or Online with some History of Lingerie books, as well as our VFG Lingerie resource of course!

I would also say it was modern, primarily because of the barcode printed on the care label. The last time I tried to find out when they started doing this it was on a retro 70's style top that was made in the last 5 years or so. I don't think that practice has been around for more than 10 years certainly.
