Hello Fellow vintage lovers,
I recently bought this beaded capelet at auction. I am thinking it was originally part of an evening gown, similar to how I have photographed it. There are press studs on the underneath of the shoulders, presumably for attaching to shoulder straps. I did the burn test to determine whether or not the tulle may be nylon, and it proved to be silk. The beads are glass. Don't know about the sequins, I didn't want to cut one off. Any thoughts on era?

Barbara,
When I saw it in the auction catalogue, I thought the same thing. But on seeing it, it's definitely vintage. It came from a large private collection spanning Victorian to 1960s, but which did also have some costumes. I just checked - the beading is all sewn on cotton thread and the press studs don't look like the modern ones I use.
