Help dating this button up

Hey, guys. First post here. I just picked up this vintage button up, and I’m wondering if it’s from the 60’s? I’ve been collecting a lot of vintage button ups lately, and I feel that it’s older than 70’s.

Did some more researching, and apparently half sizes (16-16 1/2) were introduced in the 1940’s and are pre 1970’s. The RN number on this does not fall within the 50’s range, so this must be 60’s.

And I’m not sure why you have to be so obnoxious with your reply. I read it on sammydvintage.com. I found one of my 90’s button ups with a half size. Thanks anyways..

RN # for dating is sometimes a little tricky... the company could've trademarked or registered and element of the design and THAT is the year of the RN. So one can assume it's nothing to date prior to the RN year.

But, this label is early 80s. I recall it being a brand popular in the department stores in the day. Good luck with it. : )

Just wanted to add that I've had a lot of mens shirts with that collar size in the '70s so it's not a hard and fast rule. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Nicole, I am not sure what you are referring to. What is a regional thing? What is not a hard and fast rule?

Also, to the gent who posted this thread, (probably adding flame to the fire here), but 1/2 sizes for men's shirt collars were not introduced in the 1940s, it goes back much much further.

I was referring to his statement that a size like that indicates a pre'70s date. To quote: " apparently half sizes (16-16 1/2) were introduced in the 1940’s and are pre 1970’s."

My understanding is that a 16 1/2 collar size is a neck measurement and I've seen them in '70s, confirming your statement " It did not end in the 1970s."

Apologies for the confusion.

yes, half sizing is still a thing to this day. here is a link to Brooks Brothers, if you scroll down, you can see they still size with halves. unfortunately it's not the first time sammy d vintage has posted incorrect vintage information; we're glad you came by here for help! :) hope to see more of you and your vintage finds!
