Hi Guys,

I found this dress at a thrift store and I'm not sure the era. It looks like a 1920s style but it's in perfect condition which seems too good to be true.

Material is a blue velvet with slits up both sides. There is some beadwork and sequins at the neck and arms. The dress is unlined but there is a silk lining behind the beadwork. At one place, the silk is coming up and you can see the way that the beads were sewn on and this was definitely hand sewn but the rest of the dress was machine sewn. There are no tags or zippers but there is a metal hook and eye closure in the back.

Thanks for your help!

Hard to tell without seeing a close-up of the beads and sequins. The cut is not particularly 20's and it looks more like a 70's style to me. On the other hand - no tags with that beading ... is odd. Metal hook and eye closures were done in India in the 70s and 80s. Just rambling here - hopefully someone more sure-footed will come along.

I agree, not 1920s. It looks like the tunic or dress portion of a salwaar kameez, so it could well be Indian.

It could be Indian, the silver coil work was suggesting something more west to me -- it's a common technique used in places like Turkey and Syria but it might be used in Pakistan and western India as well. This isn't my area of expertise by any means...
