Help dating this gorgeous satin dress?

This dress was something my friend's mother owned, it's an absolutely gorgeous peach satin dress with velvet detailing along the hem. I just can't date it. Instictivly I want to say 1950's due to the full skirt, but there are details that make me think of the 1940's. The keyhole in the back was added by me (The head hole was far to small, so I had to make it larger). The original label says "Fashionette inc. Montreal" photo's below!

Beautiful dress - I agree on the 40s looking details, and would think that first. I have a little 40s summer dress, that also has a wider skirt... Let's see what the others here have to say. Meanwhile, can you please also post a photo of the label? That may help as well.

Thank you for the label pic - looks late '40s to me.

Additional information that will help:

• Is that the original hem or does it show shortening?
• Do the sleeves have notches in the top or are they straight all around.
  
• Can you tell from the inside if the sleeve are original, or an update.
  
• The sleeve shape looks odd to me so I'm trying to work out what's happening with it - here's where a photo on an actual arm will be more useful than a hanging shot like this.

That is the original hem, it comes to mid-calf on me and I'm 5'8.
The sleeves are straight all around and they are the original sleeves.
It also seems like it had a belt at some point.
