Help dating this Rose Marie Reid suit (1970s?)

Hello All,
The only label that looks similar in the resources is for a 1970s suit. This seems more early 60s to me. Any thoughts? Also, do you think this is more of a 'playsuit' given the lining and the very transparent fabric?
Lauren

I agree the print, and low cut back also look early 60's style, however the label embroidery actually looks quite modern, are there no other labels or signs one has been cut out? and can you tell us if there is any padding or cups in that lining?
I have a similarly made playsuit that has a chiffon overlay which I would have said was 50's/60's in looks except it has washing instructions.

Hi Melanie,
The label is weird...it's outlined in stitching larger than the label (you can sort of see it on the last photo) but only the bottom and sides are sewn the top of the label is open...as if someone had faked it, but why leave it so obvious? No other labelsNo padding, but I wonder if there was something under the bust area between the two layers? The fabric is a sort of 'starchy' chiffon for lack of a better word and has some stretch to it.

Yes it's partly the way the label is sewn in that makes me think it is more modern, that's done for speed, they have carried on from sewing a seam to add the label in, and then gone back to to seam. It's not a method I've seen on any vintage garment.
Do the measurements match a modern 12? None of the labels we have on file have the size on them so I'm thinking this is a modern swimsuit/playsuit possibly styled on one of their 1960's designs.

I think more like a modern 2-6 maximum
Measurements:
from bottom of vneck to rise: 21 inches
under the arms and around: 28 inches
cup is probably a B
waist: 22 inches
hips: 32

this is so weird. I have a swim suit that's 1950s with the "bubble bum" etc., but is has the same label as you are showing Lauren sewn onto the inside cup lining. Just had my laptop returned from repair shop. I can post image later. Makes me wonder what's going on with these labels?

Alice, your suit is adorable and looks very '50s to me - the label on the other hand, does not. No other labels, I take it?

Lauren, your suit looks more modern to me: influenced by older styles but I think plus the label, which as Melanie pointed out, is a modern technique - makes me put this style in the last twenty years. It's an odd one though - the waist darts look like they've been reshaped, taken in. I have no possible explanation for the size but your measurements are presumably unstretched.

No other labels Nicole. I agree wit h the 50s date. I'm trying to decide whether or not it's really a Rose Marie Reid. And how to list it. Which sounds like the same issue that Lauren is dealing with.

Alice I think it is a Rose Marie Reid, that label couldn't have been added afterwards without leaving signs the lining seam had been tampered with. The zip looks like it could have been replaced, can you check? It's very chunky for a swimsuit.

Hi Melanie, Sorry my label image isn't very clear. Actually the label is sewn onto the inside lining of the cup, and not into a lining seam. Here is another image of the back. I'm still getting familiar with my new camera and the angle of my previous back image distorts the zipper. As Lauren noted earlier our label resource show this to be a 70s label.
