Hi everyone! I have this cloak which I'm trying to research for the sake of listing. Does anyone have any information regarding the brand? The tag reads "Ballard and Broekett, Southern California". I'm thinking 60s but am not certain...also, if anyone has any other information on the cut/fit and any specific key-words I could use, that would be appreciated too!! I haven't come across another cloak like this in my "thrift hunting" so I was pretty excited to come across this unique piece. Thanks in advance!

Very pretty! I'm not familiar with Ballard and Brockett, but the stitching attaching that label surely looks home sewn. That would be a problem if it was an iconic designer or brand, but not for something more obscure like this.
I don't think I would call that a "cloak", since it has sleeves. I'd probably describe it as a hooded evening coat, with a swingy trapeze silhouette.

I agree it's a hooded evening coat but I think it is earlier than early '60's. The style and lining color especially - is the lining rayon? looks more late 1940's or early '50's to me. The National Recovery Board label was seen into the '60's but I'm getting more of a late '40's - early '40's feeling from this. I could be wrong, though!

I agree with Linn - the rayon lining is the kind they used in the '40s and '50s especially if it's that peach colour. In one photo it looks olive green though: does it have different colours in different parts or is the photography?

The bracelet length sleeves look late '50s to early '60s but is that a batwing sleeve too? Batwings are earlier. If the sleeves are the original length, I'll put it into late '50s but if they've been shortened, I think it's likely to be late '40s to early '50s.

The stitching on the reattached label is hilariously bad. The velvet reads like a cotton on my monitor, and the hem looks like it's been taken up - the longer length (assuming it's there) will put it earlier than the '60s too.

Thanks for all of the input everyone! To answer a few questions: the sleeves are not dolman, or at least not significantly so-they taper slightly at the wrist but they are not "bat-wing" or anything dramatic like that. The lining is all one color, not paneled, I just took the picture of the union tag under a different light because I finally noticed it when I was measuring, away from my photography area. I will have to check on the hem and will investigate whether or not it looks like it was hemmed...the interior brand tag does look like it was re-sewn though, rather odd...I did some more research and am leaning towards 40s based on what I found about the brand, apparently they were based out of San Diego...Thanks so much for the input and keywords everyone!! I appreciate it :)
