help dating this vintage slip

hello everyone!

I managed to thrift this slip dress recently and I'm really curious about the age, since I haven't seen anything like it before around here.

It has a metal side zipper and a wide hemline and it's made of some silky feel material, but my guess is synthetic. it doesn't have any tags either to help with the dating. The straps are not adjustable.

Considering the zipper and hem, my guess would be 40s or 50s, but my knowledge is very limited so it might not be this old at all.

Here are some photos I took, if you need anything more specific please ask.

*edit* apparently the attachment function doesn't work so i've uploaded them here http://picasaweb.google.com/asleepinthepoppies31/Vintage#

sorry for the inconvenience!

What a beautiful slip! It's probably made of rayon and from the 1940s. Perhaps it was originally to go with a wedding or ballgown?

that's my quick first impression also ~

Yes, it's a slip from the Forties period. It wouldn't necessarily have been worn under a wedding gown. Slips and lingerie in general during the early part of the decade were available in limited colours - white and variations of pink, cream, pale blue and pale green.

Thanks everyone!

I really didn't expect it to be this old , as thrift stores around here carry imported clothes and usually you can't see anything older than the 70s.

I plan to attach fabric flower pins to the bodice and try to wear it as a dress, since it's so nice.

I'll share the results with you :).

Thanks again, you were really helpful!
