Help Dating Velvet Dress?

Hi everyone! I'm unfortunately very unsure about the date on this dress. I automatically thought 60's, but I tend to do that.. the zipper placement leads me to believe it could be earlier! Any help is appreciated!

Great color! Judging from what I can tell in the photo, I would place this in the early to mid 1950s, and it looks like a rayon velvet.
