Help Dating Vintage Shorts

I bought these shorts the other day, and I know they are vintage however I am having a hard time placing what era they are from as the style is unfamiliar to me. They are very short, high waisted, and have built in bloomers. Zipper is the center back and also has a clasp closure. The zipper brand is "Waldes." It has a tag, but the print has been 100% washed off.

I agree it might be the bottom of a bathing suit. Or what they used to call a sun suit, not for swimming, but for lounging about by the pool, on the patio, or while gardening, etc.

It is SO cute! I also see late 1950s, but it could be early 1960s as well.
