Hi there Everyone,
This dress has no label. I am thinking it is from the 1970s but don't feel certain.
Any thoughts?
Lauren

This is something known as a Mexican Wedding Dress. They haven't changed over the decades and are still in production so it's very difficult to pinpoint a date on them.

Look at the bust vs waist measurements they will be very different between the 50's which were quite curvy (8-10" between bust/waist) and the 70's which was much slimmer (4-6")

Well if the zipper is metal, it could be 50s or early 60s. I think the first nylon zipper was in 1960.

The general "vintage rules/clues" really don't apply to these. They are made in Mexico and I was being quite literal when I said they haven't changed over the years. Yes, some still use metal zippers and the measurements are all over the map.

I agree with cosmiccowgirl...these are seen often here in TX and it is very hard to date them. They just dont change much.
The only ones I can date with some accuracy are the ones that have labels.

I agree as well. These are also all over the thrifts here in California. Most are very recent coming out of Mexico and the Mexican clothing stores here in the area. It's pretty difficult to date them without the tags. Most still are made with metal zippers, at least to ones that I run into. Up until a few years ago, I could still purchase metal dress zippers at Jo Ann fabrics, so it doesn't surprise me that they are still made with metal zippers in Mexico.

I must be missing something. I lived in central California most of my life, now I live in the bay area. I have been thrifting for 8 years but I have only come across one that has the quality of pintucks, fitted bodice, metal zipper and lace ever at a thrift store. Must be bad luck or maybe they are more abundant in southern California. But I do see a lot of them at vintage stores or boutiques. Maybe sellers bought them up claiming them all vintage.
