Hi Everyone,
This coat has the 1955 to 1963 ILGWU label....it has a somewhat a line but it doesn't strike me as quite a 'swing'....

Also, is there a term for this weave of wool? It's almost like a honeycombish thing?

Finally, I think I'm looking at brown mink and the collar is gathered in a way I've never seen before...it's almost gathered...is there a term for that? The fur is sort of squished in on area that keeps making be think it is ripped but it's not....I wonder if this is an effect from the gathering process?

thanks for any help
Lauren

Hi Lauren, Pretty coat. It looks like an early 60s style to me. The collar is mink, looks like a puritan collar, and I suspect the hind side pelt has dried a bit over time creating that rippled effect. The sleeves look like they are either 3/4 length or bracelet length. I think the body of the coat may be a matelassé wool where the yarns were woven creating a raised blistered effect in the honeycomb pattern you described.

You are most welcome. I can see the collar is sewn flat on the bottom but I cannot see how the collar was sewn at the top by the neck. It's possible that a ruching sewing technique was used at the top to create that gathered affect in the collar.
