i hope the pictures have been inserted here... as i am not very good on the computer...

thanks for any info that peeps might have....

i thought it might have either been for carrying ax expensive perfume bottle or something similar... or jewelry....it is quite large .....and how much do you think its worth ? not in mint condition as there is quite a bit of marking to the outside..

thanks hattystatic...i went over to the moneysaving site and asked on their tech forum part.... and managed to get some sort of image on to the post....

but a BIG thank you for the offer of help......

back to the item in question... there is no pockets or anything.... just a load of soft padding as you can see.....

First impressions from the photo it looks like the frame was bought or given separately and a lady had made it into a bag for to fit something??? .
but the second photo of the inside looks a little too nice or good for a home made job.
saying that the patter is nice but in my view it is to larger design for a bag, sort of like you find on curtains in the 70's/80's, I think I see that years ago.
Harriets idea for bowling ball bag might be on the right track, I was thinking more about lades bowling shoes I bet they cost a lot.

Has it got a solid bottom which would indicate it was for something relatively heavy?

In the end all speculation sorry..

hi... paul.......

i dont think its strong enough to hold a bowling ball....as the bottom is only like a ply type wood.....and the frame work with the top clasp...wouldnt hold the weight

my mum thinks its for a crystal ball type thing.......

what ever it was made to hold must have been to fragile to carry around.....

the auctioneer.. where it is still at.... seems to think its from any where betwwen the 30's to 50's as this is the type of thngs that came from the house clearance......

they will not sell it to me or list it in an auction until he know's what its for ....i think he's afraid of selling it incase its worth a few bob..... but i personally dont think its worth as much as he thinks he's going to get for it.......

but it could be one of those things that was made by the owner....as one of those hand made things to fit their needs for something........

i also thought it might have been a portable... cushion in disguise.....but that could just be me being silly....

The only thing again that is the weight e.g 4" crystal weighs 2.2 lb . A proper crystal say 6" or 8" cost a fortune :hysterical: so would be worth looking after.

The fabric has a good amount of damage in that stain, and I'd be willing to bet it won't ever come out. That will drastically reduce whatever price he thinks he'll get on it.

I think it looks like a lady-like stadium cushion, and the hardware does not look older than 60s to me

(oh, what does "brill" mean?)

thamks peeps for the suggestions........

there is quite a lot of staining.....it looks as though it has been stored somewehre damp......which is a pitty as what ever it was used for.......the person who made it ...must have really thought it through......

all the suggestions on what it could have been used for are all very feesable.......

i must admit the auction owner.... is an antuqe dealer himself.. and have only just bought this old auctioneers........so i think he's still got his dealers hat on... and is afraid of other peeeps buying stuff in the auction and making money on things...... he's afraid of missng out....

as i bought a load of vintage un-worn shoes from there last week.....the coblers closed in 1976.... and has been there for generations.... he still has 3 huge boxes of shoes still in their boxes..... as he wasnt happy with the price that i paid for my lot.. he now wants to sell the others himself....afraid of missing out on a profit......which is a pitty from my point of view....

as i am going to the shoe museum in northampton in the new year to try and age some of the shoes.....and find out a bit more about them..

as i am finding hard to age some of the shoes.....as there are some howlett and white.....utility shoes etc...

brill............means......brilliant....fabulous......excellent......

brill............means......brilliant....fabulous......excellent......

We'll take that, thanks!

Make sure to post some pics of shoes if you have questions....we'll get Jonathan, the resident Shoe Master, over to help. We'll never shy from a shoe pic, either!

This auctioneer sounds like he needs a few real auctions under his belt before he realizes he'll get what he gets and that's it. Stay on him, keep going to the sales and see if anyone else shows for the footwear. If not, he'll probably turn around and find you handily waiting to purchase.
He'll realize he can't sell it all himself for the max profit. Who do you think the number one consumer of auction goods is these days? Resellers!

my thoughts are that it looks like some of these tea cosy handbags....like taking a flask with you in a posh way! LOL..or somewhere to keep the handgun?? a musical instrument? or tiara??...nah my mind is not working well this morning!

hi....thanks hatfeathers......the actual auction house has been going since 1948.....and the new owner..... used to buy from there..... and then help out on a more or less full time basis.......

he took over about 4 months ago.......so it is establishec auction house.......dont get me wrong the guy is great to get on with.......and i buy regular there..... hornby train stuff .....as my 10 yr old sone is addicted to his trains....and i also pick up some bric a brac stuff etc....

i must admit i thnk i have a lot to do with his attitude with the shoes... as i was talking t him one day... me buying and selling old 'vintage' clothing and accessories etc..... and i think the £££££ signs flashed in front of his eyes......

as since our conversation there has been some clothing and accessories in the auction.....only me bidding more or less.....

i will take some photos of the shoes and list them later..... at the mo... most of the shoes are in the basment of my mothers shop.....so will post some more in the next few days........
