Hi! My friend scored a great piece of vintage. The material tag is missing and I really want to know what fabric this is. Looks like velvet but thicker and less shiny. Any ideas??

  2. Possibly a polyester velveteen?
But let's wait and see what more learned heads than mine say!

  9. We had a similar discussion on Facebook yesterday so I thought I'd clarify that 'velour' is the French word for 'velvet' and the two fabrics are quite similar - the VFG fabric resource (thanks Maggie) says:

'Velour is made in the same way as velvet except that it is made of cotton or a blend....it differs from cotton velvet in having a longer and denser pile'.
