Help! Has this 'Suzette, Young Californian' dress been altered?

It must have been for some theater group? It just looks like it almost might have been???? Any date for the original? 1970s?

The style could well be original and I agree with a late '60s date - but, the finishing inside the sleeves and shoulder is very rough compared to some of the other stitching, and that makes me think you could be right about alterations.It's a rather theatrical style, as you suggest.

I have questions that might help:

- has the blue velvet on the bodice been added, or is it sewn into the seams?
- has the gold trim been added, or is it original?
- has it been shortened or is this the original length?

If you can show a photo of the inside of the shoulder seam and bodice it will help.
 
I've taken a few shots of the inside....there is an intact (certainly original) lining that if you lift it up you can see the sewn in blue bodice...there is no lining in the sleeves....sorry about all the photos, but I thought it better to err on the lavish side. The gold is sewn in the layers of the seem but is like a lace frill.

I think it was a solid pink dress in the 60's and that it's been altered for stage - rather medieval juggler! All the raw velvet edges don't match with the tape finished hem and neat seams - you couldn't leave them like that for sale as as you see it frays a lot.
