Help identify if this is Persian Lamb?

Hi - I have a gorgeous coat I believe from the 1960s with a mink fur trim collar and cuffs.
I believe the main fur is persian lamb and the coat appears to be high end, however, how can I make sure it's authentic and not synthetic?

The label is "Madison - Duluth Master Furriers At Norris Lea". Usually with synthetic fur coats, there'll be a care tag stating "clean via furrier method" - this coat does not have any care tags. There is a slight opening at nape of lining so I can tell the material between the coat and lining is leather if this helps.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Brooke

Hi Brooke, That is so pretty. It is real, it is Persian Lamb, the collar and cuffs are Pastel Mink, and it dates to the 60s. You can tell right away if a fur garment is real if the hind side of the fur is leather as that is the skin.

Awesome thanks Caryn! I'll put this into my notes for helping detect authentic or synthetic lamb!

Hi, holiday greeting to all.
I'm a bit troubled and afraid I might have been taken advantage. I purchased, it stated persian lamb faux fur, Russian princess. The seller never posted the tag or any tag. I just received it. The brand is Borella made in England. As I felt my belly button tighten, I took a deep breathe. I started to search in Google and came across this site. I feel an urge of anger and disappointment if it's not real. Can anyone tell me the truth?
Thank you

Very pretty, and I can see the "Russian princess" reference.

On a quick internet search, I see a Borella coat that looks similar to yours on Etsy (and with your label) decribed as crushed velvet with fur collar, and a Sportowne coat on eBay with your label, also described as crushed velvet with "faux fur detailing".

I am guessing your coat is also crushed velvet. We would need closeups of the collar and cuffs with the fur separated to see the base to know it it's real fur or faux (imitation) fur, but based on the other coats, it's probably not real.

I love me a Princess cut coat, but I'm not clear on why you're disappointed, as faux is a commonly used French word meaning fake.

faux is a commonly used French word meaning fake.
That's what I was getting at when I said "real fur or faux (imitation) fur".

I frequently use the term "faux" for imitation furs, leathers, pearls, gemstones etc. I have assumed my buyers would understand what I meant. Perhaps I need to rethink that and be more explicit in the description?

Yes, right! I try to restate the fake aspect of an item in a few different ways to insure the buyer's expectations are met. Just as someone might be looking for genuine fur, leather, etc., on the flip-side is the vegan who might specifically be looking for an imitation/fake.

In my opinion this coat is much better in the faux fur / cloth. It would be very heavy and stiff if real Persian lamb. It is beautiful!
