Help Identifying 80s Label - Please & Thank You

Hello.

A sweater from the early 80s is missing most of its label - it appears to have been cut.

Does anyone remember this sweater type from the early 80s and/or can anyone identify the manufacturer?

This has a Japanese look to me - both the kitty and the colors. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Yours is an interesting observation - pretty sure definitely pre-dates the Here Kitty logo, in which case, it could be somebody associated with that design.

It isn't exactly "Hello Kitty" - which occurred to me, too when I saw the sweater but it might be based on it. I looked "Hello Kitty" up and it originated in Japan in 1975 and was introduced in the US in 1976 so the time frame is correct. Here's a link on Wikipedia:
