I’m very new to the vintage fashion scene and would love help from all you lovely people dating a recent find.
Disclaimer! I’m an amateur when it comes to fabric so the description is from my very limited knowledge. At first, I bought this item not on the pretense that it was vintage but because it was just so cute and well-made to pass up. The chain is long and has absolutely no rust nor does the metal structure inside. The outside is decorated with this gorgeous beaded design; the ones on top have a floral pattern and the bottom is just rows of big beads. It’s also embellished with beads on the edges, along the bottom and both sides. The inside is made up of a satin/taffeta? Or something of the sort with a small little pocket inside.
Appearances are really deceiving because it weighed more than I expected; a little over one pound. There were some loose threads inside of the pocket so I cut a piece and burnt it, it degraded but it was too fast for me to smell anything. I’m not sure if all this information will help but I’ll add everything I observed to help with dating this purse.
Here’s my dilemma, is this vintage? It looks just way too good in condition for something that could be and on top of that, one side has some missing beads with glue sticking out of it. Was glue used on purses back then? Or maybe the previous owner tried fixing it? I asked the lady at the cashier and she said maybe 30s but from the usual designs of 30s bags, I wouldn’t think so. Perhaps I’m denying myself wishful thinking, my knowledge is very slim but I’d love to learn. Thank you.
