Help identifying fabric (late 1950s)

I have a wedding jacket from 1958 and I'd like to know what the fabric is as well as how to wash, iron, etc. It is some sort of synthetic, a bit stiff but that may just be age. It has some damage on the front but I plan to use the bow from the back to patch it in a way that looks planned.
The photo of the label was blurry but it says 'Alfred Werber, of St. Louis'. The bride lived and was married in southern Illinois.
Thanks for any help.

Dee, as you are better placed to see, feel and handle the fabric than we are, can I recommend you try using our Fabric resource first to narrow down the options?

I have read all that but I am none the wiser. I also did some research about what fabrics were 'new' back then and acetate was one that I thought might be it or close. I am not a clothes person in general so even if it is acetate from nearly 60 years ago, how do I care for it? It belonged to my husband's mother and I don't want to ruin it but I do want to wear it.

It's hard to tell from a photo. If you did a good sharp close up, someone might be able to give an opinion, but it is hard to id fabrics from a photo alone. Acetate is slightly stiff, and makes a slightly 'rustly' sound as it moves.

Dee456 it's hard to tell from the photos but it looks like it might be a tailored jacket - in any case, as a lined garment I recommend dry cleaning only.

As to ironing, just use the synthetic setting on your iron. It's probably polyester with an acetate lining.
