Help identifying fur coat?

I recently purchased a brown coat from a seller who was not sure what kind of fur it is or which decade it was from. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a label inside.

I tried to use the fur resource and my current guess is mink, although I looked up similar topics and some of the coats which look like mine turned out to be other furs dyed to imitate mink. Anyone here have an idea what it might be?

I'm in the UK if that narrows it down. Thanks in advance for any information!

Hi there, Pretty coat and thanks for viewing the fur resource as well as searching similar topics. Your searching has fared you well. It is muskrat that was dyed to look like mink and let out or constructed to look like mink.

Thank you Caryn! I had a hard time looking for the zig zags so I wasn't sure if it was muskrat.

If it isn't too much trouble, would you happen to know the era of the coat?

This one would have been tricky for you because the coat was constructed to look like let out mink so the zig zag pattern is not noticeable. If that lining is original in the coat then I would say this is a 70s coat, possibly early 80s.

Very interesting. You have extensive knowledge! The complete lack of labels made me wonder if the lining may have been replaced.

Thanks again :)
