I'm new to this and can't quite figure out what type of fur this is. Its labeled Al Thompson Furrier Portland.
Its very soft! I was guessing sheared beaver…..I'm hoping someone here can help me identify it. Thanks!

Hi there, This is unusual and surprises me because I see a furrier label but your close ups look like faux fur, especially the last photo which looks like the fibers are sewn in at the base.
Is there an open hem along the bottom or anywhere that you can see the opposite side of the fur? Take a photo of a portion of that if you can see it and post it here. If the fur is real the opposite side will be a creme colored soft leather.
If you can't see the hind side pull some of the fur fibers to do a burn test. If it's real when the fur is ignited it will burn fast and smell like burning hair. If it's faux then it will melt and smell like plastic melting.

Hi, thanks for your response. I think that last picture is deceiving. the lining appears to be stitched into the hide, so it creates that look at the base. I did the burn test and it ignites and burns fast. I can see the hide at one of the corners, but I'm not sure i can get a picture of it. I did the needle test and I couldn't get it to pass through.

Ok. I would love to see a photo of the hide if you are able to get a photo of it. I would think it was real with the furrier's label in there but at the same time from what I have seen so far it really looks faux to me. When you do the burn test what does it smell like?

In the meanwhile here is what a close up of sheared beaver fur looks like for comparison;
