Help Identifying Fur Coat

Hello, would someone please help me to identify what kind of fur this coat is made of? I believe it is raccoon, but it is so shiny. I also have a question about what the side slits are for. I first thought a belt, but it seems strange that the belt would go inside the coat. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would also like to know if there is a way to get rid of smells associated with the fur. It is not a horrible smell, it just smells kind of like animal.

I have never experienced a fur coat smelling like "animal." The fur is so highly treated prior to becoming a garment, it is far more likely to be a scent left on by a previous owner or an actual animal. To begin with, you could freeze it for a few weeks and air it out for a few more. Or, have it professionally cleaned by a furrier. If it is BO, maybe you can spot treat the lining to lift the offending oils.
