Hi I found this at my grandmother’s and think it might be leopard fur. I don’t think I would be able to sell it according to CITES as it’s post 1947. It has a Selfridges receipt dated 1957 and is a muffler. My questions are is it leopard fur and what should I do with it? I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing it. I do wear fur like mink but if it is leopard that feels a bit different. Thanks in advance for any help

Looks like leopard and, no, you cannot sell it. Those who sell it might have a very special furrier license to do so but generally they do not. I would keep it and enjoy it yourself or, if you cannot (I get it), gift to another member of the family or close friend.

I was *just* in a thrift store that had a leopard collar in the display case. I spoke to a volunteer there who I know and told her that if Fish and Game came in, they could be fined maybe 45K. She was like "but it's from the 40s and the animal is long passed," and I had to just wish them well. It's serious business if there's a tip off and/or raid.

So enjoy it if you can, gift it to someone who could love it more.
