Help identifying fur

Hi all,

Hoping to get some help identifying the type of fur that this coat is made of. One of the women at the estate sale said mutton, the other said seal! which sounds crazy but then again, I had never even heard of seal being used.

Also, would you say 60s?

It does looks 60s to me. I wonder if it may be sheared beaver. Let's see what our fur expert has to say about it.

Hi Victoria, I completely agree with Mary Jane. The fur type is sheared beaver that was intended to look like seal and and I agree with 60s dating, most likely somewhere between 65-68.
