Help identifying Nights Label

Hello,

I have a gown (2 piece) that I believe is a Naeem Khan Riazee piece, but the label only states NIGHTS. It has the Suzarila label next too it similar to other Naeem pieces during this era. The Neiman Marcus label from researching appears to be a 1970s (likely late 1970s).

Any help would be appreciated. My research on other sites, I have not been able to find another similar label.

This style always make me think of the mid 80s - when the Golden Girls would get all dolled up for a night out. And, it looks like it has fairly large shoulder pads - also an 80s trait. When you can't find comparables to the actual label, sometimes it is just safe to go by the style and trends represented in the garment. I actually find those can be more reliable than labels, as some companies didn't change theirs for 30+ years. But trends and fabric traits by era can be very researched with ads and magazines, and searches of course.

I agree it looks 80s. That was the decade I originally thought but the Neiman Marcus label matched what this website showed as 70s.

I am really trying to determine though if the Nights Label is also a Naeem Khan Riazee label. I have seen his label on a couple of vintage pieces with Naeem Khan Riazee Nights next to the Suzarila label, but I have not seen any with JUST Nights. I believe it is the same designer, I just can't not verify with my research.

Are the shoulder pads foam?

The shoulder pads are covered in the same lining as the garment so it is hard to tell exactly what they are made out of. Is there away to verify this? I just searched online trying to research how to find out and I did not get any specific answers, more just on how to safely remove them

If you go to The Philadelphia Museum of Art website, they have a piece. And, they also declare that the label NIGHTS was the label designed and imprinted by Naeem Khan. So, looking at pieces with a variety of the NIGHTS labels, they all have the same pronounced aesthetic. I think you would safely be able to say this piece is that designer, and 1980s. The reason to see what the content of a shoulder pad is, would be to definitively determine if a piece is 40s or 80s, if the shoulder pads are original to the piece. The older shoulder pads are cotton batting. The 80s ones are foam.

Thank you for sharing the information! I initially saw this piece when researching, but saw that the label still stated Riazee Nights. It seems he had three labels during this period. Riazee Nights, Naeem Khan Riazee Nights and Naeem Khan Riazee.

Still not 100% though if Nights Label was actually designed by Naeem Khan. I may check our local library or see if there is a place in our area that specializes in vintage cloth designers.

Thank you for the help!

As I understand it, the question is whether the "NIGHTS" label belongs to Naeem Khan or simply to Neiman-Marcus?

The Philadelphia Museum of Art states their garment, a woman's evening dress, has the label "Riazee Nights, a label of Naeem Khan".
Not a definitive indication that the plain "NIGHTS" label is also associated with NK.

Confusing... :puzzled:

That said, I did come across a "Naeem Khan Riazee Nights" dress with a secondary Saks Fifth Avenue label. That does seem to point to the "NIGHTS" label belonging to Naeem Khan himself, and not simply to a store such as Neiman-Marcus. But again, not a definitive answer.

Yes, this is the part that I am having a hard time determining...if the Nights label was/associated with NK.
I found a couple of other Nights Label from different departments, Lillie Rubin and Bergdorf Goodman which all more indicates designer just still have not found anything definitive that links them two together. Style extremely similar and the use of Nights in some of NK labels is also puzzling.
