Help identifying the era of this Chesterfield coat?

Hi everyone! I have this long ladies wool Chesterfield coat, which I'm trying to list, but am having trouble dating. Does this appear to even be vintage? I was thinking the 1970s judging by the cut...there is no brand tag, the only tag it has on the lower seam is faded but there appears to be the faded outline of a Woolmark or Union symbol, I'm leaning more towards Union myself...if anyone has any input on what era this could be based upon the cut, I'd truly appreciate it! The buttons seem to be genuine leather. Thanks in advance :)!

I can't say for certain but I believe real leather football buttons and the button down epaulettes are both features you are unlikely to see in later decades, you might get the buttons on a classically tailored garment by a traditional brand, but it would have to be fairly high end to be in recent decades. I would put it no newer than 1980s, personally.

just noticed this thread ~ Team Sparkle, you have a beautiful double breasted overcoat, but for it to be considered Chesterfield, it would require a velvet (velveteeen) collar.

the plain label suggests that it may have been military issue, possibly. if the lining is not tacked down, you may find more clues in the seams.

yes a lovely coat, but to me the buttons look far too old and well worn to be as recent as the 80s, it does look as if its a uniform, you don't normally see that type of button on a womens coat, other than a sheepskin!

what is the lining made of? at odds with the buttons the lining looks more modern! have the buttons been sewn on later do you think?

It looks like a late 1960's early 1970's double breasted coat to me - and I think the buttons are original. I don't see it as part of a uniform - just a really nice coat. The lining is consistent with late 1960's. I owned a double breasted maxi coat that I shortened to midi that had grey lining. Do you think this coat might have been shortened?

Thank you for all of your input!! I have it listed as 70s, and have described the worn in buttons :). I don't believe it has been shortened but I will have to double check the bottom hems-thank you!!
