Help me date my mules!

The beige leather linings, composition sole, stilleto shape, say late 50's- 60's but the pattern reminds me of the 80's.

I did a Google search for "T.V. Antoni of London" but all that came up were listings for completed Ebay auctions for vintage 50's "T.V. Antoni of London" but as luck would have it, when you clicked on the links, the auctions were gone :powwows:

Gee, Lei, since this was your thread with that title I expected to see more pictures of barnyard animals!:D

I don't see 80's at all. I see 50's - at the latest early 60's - in the logo, shape and, well, everything.

I dunno about 50s here.... I'm no shoe expert for sure, but these look to me like throwback "80s doing 50s." To me, the heel doesn't look quite "right" for 50s--almost, but not quite. I have several pairs of 80's shoes in stock, and a couple pair have heels just about identical to yours.

Of course, I could be all wet, but that's what I'm seeing anyway.... They are cute, whatever age they are!

Darn these ambiguous shoes!! I can't find anything on the maker except for one person's completed Ebay auction found on google but the auction is gone now. They had theirs listed as 50's though.

The leather is buttery soft not like any 80's shoes I can remember my mum wear and the construction seems earlier too but yes, it's the heel shape and the shiny leaf pattern which is making me think 80's.

ACK!!!:insane:

Lei, if these are high-end shoes, and they look to be (that old-style lettering could be the company's continuing nod to a long-established reputation), it's entirely possible they were made of that buttery-soft leather, even in the 80s. I've had Italian & Spanish-made 80's shoes that were top-notch (although so much harder to find than quality shoes from the 50s & 60s).

I can see why they're confounding you, because some of the elements (such as the heel & toe "insets" look an older style, but I'm still seeing 80s....

Hopefully Jonathan will pop in!

Hmmm...I am inclined to agree with Janine (who tends to be right more often that not on shoes), they look 50s maybe early 60s to me too.

Is the size written out on them anywhere? What does that look like?

They just have 6 1/2 embossed on the sole, nothing else written anywhere. They are a very small UK 6 1/2 though as I can usually get my feet into UK 6 1/2 although they are VERY tight, these won't even go on my foot at all.

I've not seen sizes embossed on soles though, on 50's or early 60's shoes, the size has alays been written or stamped inside. I've only seen embossing on soles of sizes with late 60's shoes and onwards. So maybe that would be a clue?

I had a pair of Daniel Green slippers from back then that had the exact same silver and gold overlapping leaf design on them. These remind me of sexy lounging mules, if that makes sense.

Sexy lounging mules! :D

Those lucite shoes do look similar is heel shape and toe shape.

Sheesh, dating these shoes is getting harder and harder. Just when I thought I had the date nailed down, something else comes along to throw it all out of whack!

What's the bottom of the heel like? I find that the '50s and '60s ones tend to have a metal tip, whilst more modern ones have a rubber tip...part of the reason I picked '80s is that I think the heel and sole looks modern, with the strip of one colour beige - older shoes tend to have a bit of black in there somewhere.

Nicole.

This hasn't got a tip but I have had late 50's and 60's shoes that didn't have any tips either. It's a plastic heel but that's not really an indicator either as I have had some vintage 50's and 60's cusper shoes that have had plastic heels as well.

I have three pairs of early 60's heels that I wear and they all have plastic soles and plastic heels. I've not worn down the heel on two of the pairs but on the black pair that I wear, I'm only starting to see the metal heel tip as I've worn down the heel.

The sole is plastic but again, I've had early 60's shoes that have had "plastic" (I'd consider these composition soles rather than pure plastic like you get on shoes of today) soles as well.

I may just list them as "vintage" (which they are regardless of date) and give reasons of possible dates and let the customer decide!

Are the heels of yours, Lei, curved like Carrie's Springos? In the 3rd photo down from the top in your shots, they look very straight and more at an angle toward the toe, which is one reason I opted for 80s. I have several pairs of 80's shoes with that heel type. But if they are just like Carrie's, then 50s it could be... But, then again, that sole looks very modern.....
