Help me date these short shorts, please

Hi folks,
Can you assist me with a date range on these shorts, please? They are handmade, reversible, with a 1.25 inch inseam. The back of the leg have elastic, and the front is flat. I've looked at patterns from the 50s and 60s but I can't seem to get a firm timeline.

I'm guessing these are part of a 60s baton twirling costume.
A close-up or details about the zipper could provide a bit more information perhaps.

Thanks, Joules! It's a Talon zipper. It wasn't put in expertly--one side of the shorts is 1/8th inch higher than the other when it is zipped up.
